Antoinette LaFarge

I am an artist and writer interested in how we live in a networked age. My work takes form as computer-mediated performance, video installations, digital prints, websites, and various forms of writing, including blogging. I've been creating performance projects exploring issues related to U.S. politics, religion, technological change, and feminism since the mid 1990s. I co-curated two early exhibitions on computer games and art, and I continue to be interested in gamelike activities such as geocacheing and online role-play. My work has been seen internationally in exhibitions and festivals ranging from UpStage to the Venice Biennale and documenta. I write for the techno-feminist blog Difference Engines and for my own blog, art is all we have. I am a member of FemTechNet, a network of academics working to enable women and girls to participate more directly in shaping global digital culture. Among other things, I run editathons with the goal of encouraging more women and people of diverse backgrounds to become Wikipedia editors. I am Professor of Digital Media in the Art Department, Claire Trevor School of the Arts, University of California, Irvine.
