Bio:

Hi, I'm Sofie Schönborn – a researcher and doctoral candidate at the Chair of Public Policy, Governance and Innovative Technology at the Technical University of Munich. My work explores how we govern complex digital infrastructures like cloud computing in ways that promote democratic values, digital sovereignty, and the public interest.

I teach and write about topics at the intersection of technology policy, cloud governance, and emerging technologies. My current research focuses on how governments and industry actors shape sovereignty through infrastructure – including sovereign cloud models and their role in enabling (or constraining) AI sovereignty.

Previously, I worked at Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, and I now co-lead the Digital Sovereignty Talks, a dialogue series bringing together policymakers, technologists, and researchers to rethink digital sovereignty in Europe. I’m passionate about translating complex policy questions into accessible conversations – whether on stage, in the classroom, or through writing.

I enjoy moderating panels, giving talks, and contributing to debates on digital policy, infrastructure governance, and the politics of technology. Let's connect if you're organizing something in that space!
